1803

Richard Jones was sentenced to death for the murder of Richard Dyke.  It is likely that he was condemned to death on Thursday 11 or Friday 12 August and ordered for execution on Saturday 13 or Monday 15 August.  There exists a reprieve for him dated 16 August 1803 but Appendix 22 to the Select Committee on Criminal Laws 1819 reports an execution following this Session.  Unless the judge, for some reason, respited the execution for a few days he would have hanged.  In Quarter Sessions  Records (R147) he was shown as dieted 14 July to 23 August.  Not mentioned in Burial Register for Presteigne.  No record of execution.
